The Stalker
"A warning tale that highlights the consequences of betraying love and playing with emotions. Great scene description that vividly creates the world while focusing on character actions and reactions."
- "Killer Shorts" Coverage Reader

Logline: A raunchy camping trip takes a dark turn when Lexi must find her lost boyfriend, unaware of the malevolent stalker lurking in the shadows. Horror, 9 Pages

Pitch: The Stalker is a short-form slasher film, meant to pay homage to classic set ups from 80s horror films. Notably, there is a couple in the woods, about to make love. Turning the trope on its head, their fun is interrupted not by the killer but by the emotional turmoil of the characters. Another interesting aspect is that, unlike some slashers who kill randomly, this stalker has a personal connection to the protagonist.

Lexi and Keith are on a getaway for the weekend, but when Keith laments never having any control, he takes off into the woods to clear his mind. Lexi, frustrated by this turn of events stays at the campsite and drinks. On his walk, Keith stops by a river and slips on the water. Before he can get back up, he’s attacked by an unseen assailant, letting loose a scream that echoes through the woods.
Hearing this, Lexi embarks on a mission to find him. As she traverses the woods with her low battery phone, she starts to feel uneasy. Once she finds Keith, she learns that he’s been killed, and the attacker is now after her.

Despite being short, the film focuses on the central themes of control and chaos, with Lexi learning that some things cannot be controlled.

Fresh Meat
"A sleek and atmospheric horror tale that masterfully merges sensuality and terror. A really tight transformation, psycho-sexual horror story."
- "Killer Shorts" Coverage Reader

Logline: A seductive predator lures her latest victim into a web of terror, revealing her monstrous nature. Horror, 5 Pages

Pitch:
The Script follows the aftermath of a charming date between Kori and Aranea. She tells him that she’s still hungry and invites him in. She bites him on the neck, and he passes out, awakening in a silk cocoon. She descends from the ceiling as a human-spider hybrid and proceeds to eat him. The next night, she’s on the hunt again… for fresh meat.

The script was modelled after various short films on YouTube, focusing on the terrifying experience, rather than a character working towards a goal or imparting a moral. In those cases, the character experiences something out of the ordinary, finds it fascinating, then it does something upsetting which changes their tune. Eventually, the final scare comes, and the character is dispatched or taken, never to be heard from again.

It’s horror at its most pure.

Disquiet
Logline: after a nighttime study session in the library, a bookworm packs up to leave only to fear that he may not be alone. Horror/Drama, 7 Pages
Pitch: Taking a page from more contemporary horror films, such as Oculus and Evil Dead, this film focuses on the mental anguish of the chief character, Eddie. His anxiety prevents him from being able to function in social situations, hence why he prefers studying alone in a library.

One night, while he’s studying, his sister invites him to a party to meet a girl he likes. Despite initially rejecting the offer, he eventually relents and agrees to meet her. As he’s packing up, he starts to hear monstrous sounds.

When he attempts to leave, he sees a shadow monster outside and flees back to the bathroom. With the monster determined to get inside, Eddie begins to break down in tears. The monster is revealed to be his sister with the girl he likes. She consoles him, fearing that she’s done irreparable damage to his psyche.

Given the short length and the intensity of the haunting, the audience will be more immersed in the experience, rather than discussing meaning and themes. With only one principal character and a focus on the auditory hallucinations, Disquiet would be an interesting character study, as well as a complex feat for any actor interested in it.

The Experiment
Logline: Lauren is forced to choose between her freedom and her ideals when she’s abducted and tasked with murdering her stepfather. Thriller, 10 Pages

Pitch: We’ve all seen this situation before: the main character is chained or locked somewhere unfamiliar to them, and an ominous voice is watching over their every move. Survival is the name of the game and it’s usually a race against time to do so. But what if it wasn’t that easy? What if, instead of just escaping… you had to take a life to do so?

The Experiment follows Lauren as she’s faced with such a decision: having to murder her abusive stepfather, George, who is bound and gagged before her. The voice tells her that the only way to escape is by murdering him. Despite her best attempts, she fails to escape, even accidentally shooting herself in the leg to do so. The clock and shock are against her as she must make a choice and discover the identity of her kidnapper in order to beat him.

The film centers around Lauren’s conflicted moral dilemma, which would offer some fun acting opportunities. The central theme of the film is encapsulated within the idea of “who’s life do you value more, his or yours?”
